Day 1

Day 365

Day 730

Day 1095

LA was about 5 days old and wailing in the middle of the night (infants actually do that, make a note of it) we discovered the beautiful glorious allow-mama-and-dadda-to-sleep-for-just-a-bit wonders of the pacifier. We got one out of the package, plopped it in his mouth...and, wait for it...shhh...hear that...SILENCE!
Jump ahead to yesterday. August 4, 2009. As a prelude to going cold turkey at his birthday party this weekend, Mrs. Blonde cut a very very tiny slit in the end of the paci. Simple physics really. Kid sucks on paci, it goes in and out of mouth as desired. Kid sucks on paci with slit in it, it stays put. No in. No out. Nothing. LA didn't say anything about it until bedtime last night...
For the past couple weeks my little Boatboy (age: 14months) has really become the little monster when he doesn't get his way. He is often the most easy-going (not to be confused with stationary, he's VERY active) happiest outoing baby. Think: laughs and says "Boom!" at loud noises, smiles at strangers, etc. At this age LA wouldn't let hardly anyone hold him without screaming and crying. His little brother will go to anyone. Very different children in several ways. That's part of the extreme beauty of parenting.
Daniel Suelo lives in a cave. Unlike average American—wallowing in credit-card debt, clinging to a mortgage, terrified of the next downsizing at the office—he isn't worried about the economic crisis. That's because he figured out that the best way to stay solvent is to never be solvent in the first place. Nine years ago, in the autumn of 2000, Suelo decided to stop using money. He just quit it, like a bad drug habit.
Ever sold your house? Ever tried to sell your house and couldn't. Ever tried to sell your house for a really long time?! The later is about where we fall right now. Mr. Blonde has written about this a bit before.
Get excited! I have found an eco-friendly sippy cup that is not made of toxic chemicals/dangerous plastics! And, it doesn't leak like a siv! Kid Basix has one purpose: Making kids' lives better. The Safe Sippy is a stainless steel drink cup for all ages. It comes with handles perfect for my 1 year old and you can take the handles...which I do for my 3-year-old. This cup is very unique and way better than any plastic cup we have in our home. I always knew stainless steel was a better option, but never really saw any kid-friendly versions at the store. Why is it so much better than our plastic ones already in the cabinet you are asking?
“I created the cup because my wife and I had done extensive research about the toxic effects of
chemicals used to make many plastics,” says Bret Plate, C.E.O. of Kid Basix and creator of The
Safe Sippy™ cup. “Every morning, our son would wake up asking for water, and it drove me
crazy that I had to give him water in plastic sippy cups that I knew might be unsafe. One day I
thought, if I won’t drink out of plastic bottles, why am I letting my son do it?”
Thank goodness for people like Bret who have these ideas and DO them. I have often had the same thought when I am scrubbing a day old sippy cup, with rotten milk and then quickly pouring fresh new milk in it all while my child is pulling on my ankles screaming for his milk. -- "This cups still kind of smells like old milk and I bet it is not really clean." Not anymore. Not only do I love our new cup. It is so much easier to clean, it keeps our drinks cooler longer, the boys love it and it's SAFE! I will say it is a little pricier in the beginning, but it does grow with your child. I have 3 different stage cups x 2 in out cabinet. That is a lot of cups. I am happy to trade out 3 for 1.
Buy it: Head over to The Safe Sippy and get your child a safe cup. They retail for 13.00

I have had the amazing opportunity to partner with a new company called Picaflor Kids. Not only do they have vibrant, beautiful knitwear designs, but they are strongly committed to fair-trade practices and they give back to a variety of organizations.
The colors are so vibrant. The fabric is soft and shiny. I just loved these outfits. Knowing that this company practices fair-trade makes me smile even bigger as I dress my boys in their new outfits!
July 2nd at high Noon. 182.5 days into 2009. 182.5 days left in the year.* We elected a "minority"as President for the first time in our nation's history.
* Our baby boy turned 1.
* Our economy is as crapped out as it's been since the Great Depression.
* Our big boy got himself potty-trained.
* Mr. and Mrs. Blonde celebrated 5 years of marriage. And, as part of that celebration are training for their first ever 5k together.
* Today I even saw a cardboard bear cutout climb a tree. '09 just keeps getting better.
What has 2009 been to you so far? What's left on your checklist before we step into another decade of life on December 31st?
The contest was simple -- Hang out in a port-o-let for an hour in 100 degree temperatures. The rallying of the troops and rules are below as written by an executive from the Indy Racing League...

When Mrs. Blonde and I first began dating 6 years ago one of the first questions I asked her was "What do you want your legacy to be?""Michael Jackson is dead. Dead! This is a really big deal!" I thought (and probably said out loud). But, what does that mean? What was accomplished? What was left behind? In short - A LOT!
He is arguably amongst the Top 5 most popular worldwide music entertainers in history. Likely categorized alongside The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and maybe Madonna. He broke the color barrier on MTV. He invented musical notions and dance moves that will never be replicated. He's won every possible video and music award. Thriller is still the most sold album in music history at 65 million. He became a cultural icon.
And, he was a mess. So fixated on his lack of comfort in his own body, he'd had over 50 plastic surgeries. He was accused of child molestation. He was quirky. He was married and divorced. He was addicted to pain killers. He had debt in the millions.
He's left behind three children. Little is known of them other than the third having been draped over a European balcony over a few years ago in what he later referred to as a poorly decided prank. Ya think? I worry for those little ones.
The 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records honored Jackson for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star." It's estimated that he gave over $1,000,000,000 to charity. That's 1 BILLION...with a B.
After our dinner was finished, we got to the car and I quickly scrolled through my iPod to play us a tribute MJ jam. Guess what? Nothing. My music-obsessed 8,000+ song-filled mp3 player completely vacant of anything King of Pop. A day later it's clear to me...Michael Jackson meant something to me. I just don't know what that something was.
The man brought shock. He brought awe. He brought extreme talent. He brought bizarrity. He brought confusion. He left questions.
I want my legacy to be something defined. Something sound. Something unquestionable. Something to laugh about. And, cry about. I want to be a man who constantly pursued the best for those around me by giving myself up. A brilliant husband. An unfailing mistake-making father who celebrates triumphs and leaves room for acceptance of error. Someone known and seeking to know. Someone replaceable only by a Love found not given by me but given through me.
What do you want your legacy to be?

I love the Emmie Set, but if I win, I will have to get a coordinating outfit so that I have one for each of my twin girls. The turquoise one is my favorite in 18 months.
